Time for a Half Time (plus Giveaway)

October 8, 2014

*This post was created in partnership with Stonyfield. All opinions are my own.

I grew up in the 90’s. A time in our nation’s culinary history where children were served science experiments instead of food.

A flash back to my Lisa Frank lunch box in 1994 would look something like this:

-A yellow mustard sandwich on white bread (That’s right. Just mustard and white bread.)

-Fruit Snacks. The more plastic in consistency, the better. Plus, not just artificial colors but bioluminescence colors to boot.

-Bag of snack chips; ideally shaped like a face covered in orange powdered cheese. Anyone else remember those?

-Pacakge of cookies with frosting to dip them in

-Juice box contacting 0% juice and 100% magenta colored chemical water. The ones with the twisty tops. You know what I’m talking about.

-An embarrassing and cherished note from my mother written on my sandwich baggie

-Money for ice cream.

Hey, don’t judge. That is what everyone ate in 1994! (minus the mustard sandwich. I was ahead of my time).

On really special days, a pre-packaged lunch with DIY cold pizza would be waiting for me.

The craziest part is that ALL of those foods still exist for children to consume today.

Fast forward to 2014:

I get how impossibly hard it is to pack good lunches for school on a daily basis. Heck, I can’t even get my act together most weeks to make a decent bagged lunch for our field trip adventures.

Just this past week, we went on a field trip and JBird’s lunch consisted of a sleeve of graham crackers, a piece of buttered bread, and one of those applesauce pouches; and that was a home run compared to other lunches I’ve thrown together. Despite being a great cook, and being Mary Poppins on the daily, I cannot pack a lunch to save my life.

When I first saw a Half Time box on the shelf of my local Target about a month ago (before being asked to do this review), I nearly flipped my lid! Applegate, Annie’s, and Stonyfield, the trifecta of kid-friendly healthy eats,  have teamed up to deliver a healthy alternative to convenient lunches. Organic cheese, uncured meats (not nitrites!), organic crackers, and organic yogurt all in a handy little lunch box. Now, I can run to Target, grab a couple of Half Times (Turkey is our favorite), and be set for our weekly adventures with our regular field trip crew!

Plus, everything inside is something that JBird will eat! That means I don’t have to worry about wasting any food! Double love!

Now that I have kids of my own, I am beyond grateful for companies like Stonyfield, Applegate, and Annie’s. Their products not only provide us busy parents with convenient lunch choices, but also honest to goodness healthy and safe food for our kids. I buy these brands. I trust these brands.

::drumroll please::

I get to give away a Half Time kit to one lucky fan!

Kit includes:

It’s Time For A Wienervention!

July 21, 2014

There’s just something so quintessentially summer about grilled hot dogs and BBQ’s with friends. This past weekend, we were able to bring these 2 summer staples together in a cookout supplied by Applegate (you know, that awesome, all natural and organic meat company). As part of their Cleaner Wiener campaign, the folks over at Applegate wanted to ensure we had a quality summer cookout with quality hot dogs free of antibiotics, hormones, nitrates, and fillers: it was a Wienervention.

(So great)

Imagine my excitement when Applegate farms contacted me to ask: a) If I needed a Wienervention (Answer: Do I ever?!) and b) If I wanted to help them spread the word about their Cleaner Wieners by hosting a Wienervention (Answer: You had me at free hot dogs). A few days later, my Wienervention kit arrived in the mail with everything I would need to host this ever so necessary event.

My (Super Awesome) Kit included:

-2 packs of Applegate uncured hot dogs (TWO!)

-2 packages of Rudi’s hot dog buns (plus an extra package of gluten free buns)

-Annie’s Organic Ketchup and Mustard

-Rick’s Picks Relish

-Susty Straws and Napkins (the straws are compostable!!)

-OVER THE TOP ADORABLE hot dog boats

-Grilling tools, Apron, Insulated Lunch Tote, and a Cleaner Wiener Frisbee

In other words, Applegate gave me the hookup.

Our Wienervention was a huge success. Our neighbors and friends joined us in celebrating the beauty of a perfectly grilled (and all natural) hot dog. There was laughter, coleslaw, watermelon popsicles, an abundance of mustard, and a yard full of happy smiling faces.

Daddy Bear even spruced up our water wall in celebration of such an event! So, obviously this day was a pretty big deal.

We rounded out our perfect summer BBQ with a campfire and s’mores with friends. I’m not sure it’s possible to get any more “Great American Summer” than that.

Would you like to throw a Wienervention Party of your very own?! Well you can!

The generous folks over at Applegate are giving one lucky Feel Good Foodie fan their very own Wienervention kit!

Just leave a comment below letting everyone know how you fix your hot dogs! (Ketchup and Mustard? Sauerkraut and Onions? The Works? Kimchi? The world wants to know!)

One winner will be selected at random and will be announced Wednesday July 23rd 2014; which just so happens to be NATIONAL HOT DOG DAY! How great is that?!

The giveaway will end at NOON, Central Time on Wednesday July 23rd. A winner will be picked at random by me and announced later that day. This giveaway is only open to fans living in the United States (Sorry International Fans).

*This amazing giveaway and blog post is brought to you by the even more amazing Applegate company*

Hello, Gorgeous (plus, a Giveaway)

October 10, 2013

DSC_0630So many beautiful things keep entering my life.

DSC_0644Birthdays, Babies, Surprises…and now this. A new Keurig.

The awesome people at Keurig sent me a K65 Special Edition to try out and talk about on the blog. Pretty sweet deal.

So far, I’m totally smitten. As someone who is totally challenged when it comes to understanding the complex workings of a coffee maker (despite 3+ years with Starbucks. Sad, I know), this thing is BEYOND simple to operate. You only push 2 buttons! One to turn it on, and the other to pick your cup size! That’s it!

One thing I learned during my years as a Barista, is that one of the most important factors to brewing a good cup of coffee is using filtered water. Ever wonder why the coffee you make at home tastes different than your Starbucks cup o’ joe (despite using the same beans), it’s because your home water isn’t being run through a high quality filtration system. Truth Bomb!

This model comes with a built in water filtration system. Just fill it up, and you’re good to go. No need to worry about properly filtered water.

I’m also kind of in love with these cute K-Cup pods. Seriously, adorable. This brewer came with a variety pack to sample. They come in nearly every coffee brand known to man; plus non-coffee drinkers can get down with choices like hot chocolate, chai, and apple cider.

You just pop in a pod, select your cup size, and BOOM! Coffee in 1 minute. Ah-Mazing. At first I was a little wary about going through so many pods (you know, wasting money and creating waste for the environment…typical crunchy musings in my head), but turns out they make a reusable K-Cup Pod for you to put your own ground coffee into! My husband just bought one to test out and that works awesome too!

Over the past month, Keurig was camped out in the Madison area giving away these machines (as part of their trade in program). Coffee-lovers drove from miles around to trade in their old (non-Keurig) brewing system in for a sleek and sexy Keurig. Sadly, their coffee caravan has moved on to greener pastures (and other cities). However, in case you were NOT one of the lucky thousands who were able to  get your hands on one of these machines (or if you don’t live in the Madison area and have no idea what I’m talking about), I have a sweet surprise for you….

DSC_0616I’m giving away a Keurig. Yea, that’s right. The beautiful souls at Keurig have given me a machine to give to you, my devoted fans and friends. Are you totally freaking out yet?

That’s right. One for me, and one for you.
Here’s what you need to do to enter this giveaway:
-like “The Feel Good Foodie” on Facebook
-share this post on your personal Facebook wall
-leave me a comment on the blog that you’ve done both
*Only one entry per person*

*Giveaway Is Now Closed. Thank you to everyone who participated!*

Congratulations to Lucky #7: Paula!! Enjoy your new Keurig Brewing System!!

This machine has been provided by Keurig for me to use in this giveaway. They rock!!

Summer Giveaway!

Goodluck Girls Giveaway

Last week, my dear friend’s debut novel was released. For real. It’s kind of ridiculously exciting.

To top it all off, this book is being touted as one of the top beach reads of 2013, it was mentioned in a recent issue of Fitness Magazine, it was featured in the article “What’s Hot Right Now in Summer Reading” on the site Women Around Town, and it also sold out right away at both of our local Barnes & Nobles! Seriously, this book is kind of a big deal this summer.

Last Friday, she hosted a reading/book signing event at a local book store and totally packed the place. I stood in line with all the other fans and friends to have Kelly sign a very special copy of her book for me…to give to you!

Holiday Giveaway: The Unhealthy Truth by Robyn O’Brien

December 17, 2011

I had every intention of baking cookies this week.

That did not happen.

In fact, I’m kind of over Christmas cookies. More specifically, I’m over constantly eating cookie dough. I might need some sort of intervention. It’s bad.

Instead of baking, I started cleaning out my bookshelves. A totally unnecessary task, but fun just the same.

I’ve pulled out a whole pile of foodie-related books and magazines that I’ve collected over the years.

I get a tidier, de-cluttered bookshelf and YOU get a new book to read! What fun!

As my Christmas gift to you, I’m giving away the book: The Unhealthy Truth by Robyn O’Brien.

It’s all about the link between food allergies (and other illnesses) and GMOs (Genetically Modified Foods).

It’s definitely an eyeopening read!

Here’s what you need to do to enter:

-leave a comment on the blog telling me how food allergies have impacted your life (either your own, personal struggle with food allergies or if there is someone that you love who struggles with food allergies on a daily basis…or maybe food allergies have no impact on your life what so ever..share that too).

-I will be accepting comments until 11:59pm Central Time on Sunday (12-18-11).

A winner will be selected at random and announced Monday morning!

Good Luck and Happy Holidays!

**I am in no way affiliated with Robyn O’Brien or her book The Unhealthy Truth. This book was purchased with my own money and I was in no way compensated for this giveaway.**
